Lions (10-4) vs Tiger-Cats (5-9)

Headline: Lions Head East to Take On Desperate Tiger-Cats in Week 16

The BC Lions got it done last week against the Calgary Stampeders without their top two receiving threats Geroy Simon and Arland Bruce and may have to do so again this week when they play at Ivor Wynn Stadium for the very last time.

Hamilton is still fighting for playoff seeding and will be looking for a better performance after dropping two of their last three games.

The BC Lions used a rag-tag bunch of receivers last week but failed to cover the spread in their 27-22 win over their Western rival Calgary. Travis Lulay continued his assault on the record books when he tossed a TD for the 25th game in a row.

He went 23-33 with a pair of scores despite missing his two top weapons – proof that he is indeed elite and that he can make anyone look good.

It’s a good thing for Andrew Harris, who gained 73 yards receiving, scored a TD though the air and did some damage on the ground. The Lions continue to lead the CFL in rushing thanks to Harris and Travis Lulay who is as dangerous with his legs as he is his arm.

All in all, it should be a tough week for BC – on the road and likely without Simon and Bruce. But they still have enviable weapons on offense and on…

Defense has been another strong suit of the Lions and they should at very least give the Lions a chance at victory. They are #1 versus the run in the CFL and third ranked against the pass. They have playmakers all over the defense and allow a league low 19.36 points per game.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have hit a bit of a slump but they too have playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. They are #1 in the league in scoring at 30.07 points per game and they own the second best passing game in the CFL.

The problem with the Hamilton offense has been the turnovers – QB Henry Burris and RB Avon Cobourne have fumbled 13 times combined this season and Burris was responsible for three interceptions last week alone.

That’s not to say that both are not terrific weapons – they are the top scoring team in the league for a reason!

Want a reason why the Tiger-Cats are 5-9? Look no further than the defense that has allowed a league worst 31.7 points per game, 432 yards per game (7th), 123 rushing yards (7th) and 309 yards passing per game – good for last in the CFL.

BC has a real chance to e big numbers against a defense that has stopped absolutely nobody this season.

  • The total has gone UNDER in 14 of British Columbia’s last 15 games on the road
  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of British Columbia’s last 9 games when playing on the road against Hamilton
  • British Columbia is 8-2 SU in its last 10 games when playing on the road against Hamilton
  • British Columbia is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Hamilton’s last 9 games when playing at home against British Columbia
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of Hamilton’s last 7 games at home
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Hamilton’s last 6 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 12 of Hamilton’s last 17 games when playing British Columbia

The Lions are banged up but they proved last week that no matter whom they have catching the ball – Travis Lulay will make them look good.

The Lions defense will be a good test for Hamilton’s high octane offense and BC’s beleaguered offense should have no trouble exploiting Hamilton’s Swiss Cheese defense.

The Lions still have something to play for – the West isn’t quite locked up yet. I like them to win this week on the road and prove why they are favorites to win it all this season.

Pick:BC Lions -2
